      CnC-online Server

After a long wait, a teaser here, a screenshot there, and for the few of you that paid attention to ticker messages in-game or hints in earlier announcements, you are probably already aware that we are currently migrating C&C to a new server infrastructure.

For over a decade we have been running on systems that, even back in 2013 when they were purchased, were already fairly tight on resources. With this migration, alongside a considerable overhaul of our backend systems, we are entering a completely new chapter for C&C.

The new infrastructure will allow us to continue modernizing and expanding the service, while also finally shifting attention back toward things like Quick Match and Clan Wars support.

But more importantly, this migration comes with some very large changes, some of which are unfortunately less straightforward than we originally hoped.

First off, C&C will be separating from the Revora Forums account system. This means that existing Revora-linked accounts will no longer function on the new platform. The new system is based around OpenID authentication and currently supports Discord, Steam, and Google logins, with planned support for GameReplays and QQ in the future. While QQ and GameReplays support may not be available immediately at launch, Discord, Steam, and Google support will be available from day one.

The Shatabrick project has also now been fully integrated into C&C and is running on the same infrastructure. It has undergone a complete rewrite, allowing players to create, manage, and represent their own clans without requiring admin involvement. Easier views of their stats and management of their ladder identity and in the future even completely integrated FairPlay systems.

We are also deploying a brand-new relay system that allows players on the same network to play together without needing to rely on VPNs. This lays the groundwork for us to gradually reduce and eventually potentially eliminate the need for VPN usage altogether.

A full and much more extensive set of patch notes and feature overviews will be released once the migration is complete.

      Now for the important part:

The migration and release process will take place this weekend. Starting today and continuing through Sunday evening, we will be moving services, databases, and systems over to the new infrastructure.

As of tonight, we will no longer be accepting new @unknown-role cases for account registration or activation. Additionally, from Saturday through Sunday, server performance may be heavily degraded while we perform full backups and database exports.

The final migration itself is expected to take approximately 2 to 4 hours on Sunday, during which C&C services will be completely offline and unreachable. We will keep everyone updated through Discord throughout the process.

      Very important:

Because we are moving away from the Revora account system and switching to OpenID authentication, there is unfortunately no technically viable or secure way for us to migrate existing Revora accounts to the new platform. This means all users will need to create a new account once the new system goes live.

For users who would like their now-obsolete Revora account deleted after launch, we are investigating ways to provide this directly through the website. Until then, you can contact @unknown-role and the team will work through deletion requests manually.

We will, however, be preserving profile data and rankings wherever possible. The new Shatabrick system will allow players to submit requests to reclaim old profiles, statistics, and ranks through our forums over at GameReplays.org.

Everything should be finalized and operational by Sunday night.
